Apple releases 'talking' iPod shuffle

Register Hardware reports: [edited]

Apple has quietly revamped the iPod Shuffle - removing [most of] its controls and making it half the size of the previous model [think 'half-a-stick of chewing gum, Ed.].

According to Apple's publicity "With the press of a button, [the Shuffle] tells you what song is playing and who's performing it."

Available in dark or light grey, the new Shuffle has 4GB capacity. Price £59.

The 1GB 2G Shuffle is still available for £31.

OK, so the controls have been moved to the headphone cable (as Mobile phone headphones have done for years).

How can it be used with my existing headphones?
And I now have another weighted element that will bounce and tangle whilst I exercise?

I am not sure about this one. It appears they have made it smaller simply because they could.

totally agree, however the majority of these are going to be 'impulse' and 'gift' purchases, where the size, and the 'talking' gimmick will be the main selling points...

now, if they could add bluetooth stereo and a motorola-style oled display...
